Year Two children are learning to use a computer graphics package to create a picture; select the most appropriate tool to match their purposes when they paint on the computers.

They used 'Paintbrush' program to produce their pictures for different topics - my friends, halloween, chocolate pattern etc. The children learned to select and use simple tools (pen, fill, line, spray and text box etc.) in their picture making, and understood that work can be easily amended without spoiling earlier version by using 'Undo' or other tools.

Paintbrush (Mac version) can be download at: http://paintbrush.sourceforge.net/downloads/

Year One children are learning to use a word processor to assemble text held in a word bank and start to develop familiarity with the computer keyboard (space bar, shift, delete) these weeks.

They discussed the words they saw around them (e.g. Exit sign, P-parking sign) and understood that words convey information. They did some word bank work according to their topic 'ME', applied what they have learned to write short phrases or sentences (e.g. My name is, I like, I come from) using a Word file.

The children have started to save their job using 'Save as' as well. They practice every lesson and many of them can do the saving properly now.

The Reception children explored ‘Charlie Chimp’s big modelling party’ this week. Kids learned to play 'Magical Fireworks' and 'the Party Game'. In Magical Fireworks, children composed the music to go with a firework display by dragging and dropping the different pieces. In the Party Game, they fired the ball from the see-saw and over the tower to land on Seal's nose, experimenting to work out which elephant to use.

The Reception children are trying their best to paint the flag of the country they are learning in the UN week. By using thin thick brushes, children drew the lines to create their flag pictures in Tux Paint. Most of them did a fantastic job of painting.

The children have been starting to paint some simple shapes on the computers this week.

We practiced painting a coloured triangle, circle and rectangle with a range of brushes in Tux Paint.
